Network Working Groups

Three working groups were created at the SPARC Network Summit November 14th-16th 2014. The Network Summit was a working event focusing on the SPARC Network’s development with attendance from individuals from across Ontario involved in the rural performing arts.

While, at times, the working groups’ roles and areas of focus may overlap, in general, each working group will focus on one of the three SPARC Objectives:

Outreach working group: to create a vibrant network for the performing arts in rural and remote communities that is accessible, sustainable, easy to manage and a vital resource. Outreach Working Group – Terms of Reference

Symposium working group: to bring together rural and remote communities, regionally and nationally, to interact, share and collaborate, and to promote community health and wellbeing through the performing arts. (Specifically, to plan and promote the 2016 Symposium with a view to fulfilling this SPARC Objective.) Symposium Working Group – Terms of Reference

Communications working group: to sustain an on-going process of identifying and sharing key challenges, innovations and opportunities that impact the performing arts in rural and remote communities. Communications Working Group – Terms of Reference

With the specific terms of references of each working group, references to users, individuals, community, and/or organizations specifically refers to those in rural and remote communities.

Membership:

Participants at the SPARC Network Summit were invited to sign-up for a working group to increase their involvement in SPARC’s development and activities. Additional members are welcome. There may be the possibility of membership within a working group sub-group. As much as possible, all offers of engagement, support and work on behalf of SPARC that fit within its mandate and objectives will be accommodated.

To maximize engagement while maintaining efficiency, the number of members of any working group may be between 3-10 individuals.

Where interest exceeds the suggested maximum, membership of the working groups will be evaluated for optimal diversity in such areas as performing arts disciplines (such as dance, music, theatre and media arts), geography, professional or volunteers roles(such as creator, presenter, producer and animateur) as well as social demographics.

Each working group will have at least one representative from the SPARC Steering Committee and the Network Coordinator will attend as an ex-officio member.

Membership terms are suggested to be between 6 months – 12 months, but are flexible to specific situations and projects.

All members of SPARC’s Steering Committee, working groups, and sub-working groups are ambassadors of SPARC. Ambassadors are expected to promote all SPARC activities, events, news and engage with its communications platform.

Reporting Structure:

The working groups report to the SPARC Network Steering Committee. The SPARC Network Steering Committee solely oversees the Network Coordinator but where working groups require support and/or the responsibilities of the Network Coordinator overlap, the working group will work in concert with the Network Coordinator.

One member of a working group will be appointed as Chair and be ultimately responsible for calling meetings, approving agendas and submitting monthly reports to the SPARC Network Committee.

Resources:

The working groups will work within a budget recommended by the Network Coordinator and approved by the Network Steering Committee. Expenditures over $1000 but within budget will require specific approval by the Network Steering Committee.

Communications:

Email, tele-conferencing, video conferencing and other platform will be used to stay connected and move the work of the groups along.
