About:
Réseau SPARC Network (Supporting Performing Arts in Rural and Remote Communities) is a peer-to-peer network that connects and supports rural and remote performing artists, presenters, creatives, producers and community animators. We are a small organization that is growing! Recently we have enacted a new Strategic Plan, and look forward to shaping our future based on its recommendations.
Currently we are in need of someone who is media savvy to run our social media channels, publish newsletters, connect us with, and grow, SPARC membership. Ideally this person would have experience working in communications and membership, but paid work is less important than having the knack and skills for this position. Most importantly though, the successful candidate will have a strong desire to see the arts thrive in rural and remote communities and a passion for helping that to happen.
Pay: $24 per hour. Hours: 10 hours per week (schedule flexible).
Contract: September 30, 2026 - March 31, 2027. Location: this is a remote position with some limited in-person gathering (if you are asked to travel, costs will be negotiated and paid for by SPARC as per company policy). Other: $100 allowance towards internet and cell phone per month, paid on a quarterly basis; overtime hours can be banked and taken in lieu, in consultation with the Executive Director. Reporting to: this position reports to the Executive Director.
Duties:
Maintaining a strong and positive social media presence for SPARC;
Keeping website up to date, and accurate;
Responsible for the publishing of monthly newsletter and other e-news as required;
Promoting all SPARC programs via social media, partner sites, and sending to partner organizations;
Finding new ways to spread the word about SPARC and our programs;
Hosting online events and meetings as required;
Maintaining the membership database;
Creating strong relationships with members;
Assisting members as needed (for instance: making connections, grant research, promoting productions via Embers - the SPARC newsletter, or connecting them with promotional outlets etc.);
Monitoring the admin email address, responding when needed and forwarding to the Executive Director as needed;
Some administrative tasks as required and assigned;
Some grant writing/editing as required and assigned;
Helping with major SPARC events as required;
Ensuring that all social media posts contain ALT text and Image Descriptions;
Ensuring all e-news and newsletters, and the website, are accessible;
Refraining from using AI and helping to develop the SPARC AI policy;
Ensuring all SPARC communications are free of racism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, violence and other forms of hate speech and/or oppression;
And other duties as assigned, and as required, as we enact our new strategic plan.
Requirements:
SPARC is a rural and remote performing arts network - as such preference may be given to rural and remote applicants with working knowledge of the arts industry;
Ability to read, write, and speak in both official languages an asset (level B2/DELF certification would be an asset);
Social media savvy;
Use of computer and cell phone to work on;
Working knowledge and confidence using Google, Squarespace, Constant Contact, Zoom, Canva and/or other such tools and technologies an asset;
Access to reliable internet.
Eligibility:
This position is open to anyone who is eligible to work in Ontario as of the hiring date.

Hiring Process:
Applications will be accepted from July 22 - August 28, 2026. Applications to consist of a cover letter and a resume/CV that should be emailed to admin@sparcperformingarts.com with the subject line: Communications and Membership Coordinator application.
Between August 31 and September 2 potential candidates will be chosen and contacted for an interview.
First interviews, which will be virtual, will be with the Executive Director, Rachel Marks, and will take place between September 3 - 6.
Second interviews, with successful candidates, will be held with the Executive Director and members of the SPARC Board of Directors between September 14-17.
An offer of employment will be made to the successful candidate between September 22-24.
Onboarding will begin on September 30, 2026.
